We are creating a bee friendly city, supporting the education of children of all ages and contributing to the fight against antibiotic resistant superbugs.
Numerous bee hives have been placed around Cardiff University. Specific plants identified from our research are being grown across the campus grounds to encourage pollinators, to support the production of super-honey and aid the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences' superbug research.
Cutting edge research exploring how the pollination of certain plants could lead to the development of drugs to treat serious medical conditions caused by bacteria which are resistant to traditional antibiotics - otherwise known as 'superbugs'.
The human fascination with honey bees has provided us with a vehicle with which to capture and hold the attention of students both young and old. To build on this sense of wonder and to create a buzz amongst the next generation of Welsh scientists, we have developed in partnership with primary school teachers and children, bee based KS2 STEM enrichment resources which can be downloaded from this site.
